FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can we come out and view your facility?
Yes, by appointment only. Please call us if you would like to visit our facility.
Where do the dogs sleep at night?
On a fold down couch, doggie bed or baby bed! There are NO CAGES at Aunt Colleen's.
Do we bring our own food?
Yes. Changing your dog's food can cause diarrhea.
How many dogs do you take at a time?
We normally accept 7 dogs per day. Sometimes we will overbook when we are familiar with a dog and know he is very easy and socializes well. Summer and Holidays we will have additional help and will try to accommodate a few more dogs. But please be advised that we are unable accommodate everyone during these peek times and we recommend that you book your Summer and Holiday vacations 2 months in advance.
How soon do we need to book in advance?
As soon as you have "your" vacation plans, call us and book your dog's vacation. Holidays book up real quick. Full payment is required (and non-refundable) to reserve your pet's vacation.
Do you require all dogs to be current on their shots?
Yes. Rabies, Parvo/Distemper and Bordetella (kennel cough). Flea & Tick preventative (preferrably Front-Line PLUS) is required from April 15-October 30.
How do you feed the dogs?
We separate the dogs into their own areas. Sometimes even the friendliest dogs become territorial when it comes to another dog getting near their food.
What do you do if some of the dogs don't get along?
If we have a dog that is getting too aggressive, we will pull that dog from the group and give him/her a "time-out". We will also separate the older dogs if it looks like the young rambunctious pups are bumping into them. The goal here at Aunt Colleen's is for ALL dogs to have fun on their vacation. So we try to group the dogs by personality. The playful vs. pups couch potatoes.
Are the little dogs kept with the big dogs?
This is a judgement call. So long as everyone is getting along, then we will keep them together.
Is the swimming area fenced?
No. But they will be on an island (we take them there by boat). We do provide a fenced area for them to play in. They have indoor/outdoor access during the day.
Do you have a veterinarian on call?
Yes. We use a couple of different vets.
What behavior is unacceptable?
Not getting along with other dogs is UNacceptable.
Do you accept dogs that require medication?
Yes. There is no additional charge for this service.
